COVINGTON — Funeral services for Clifford J. Powell, age 74, who was found dead at 9 a.m. Thursday, March 11, in the workshop at his home on Covington Rt. 1, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home here. The Rev. J. T. Myers officiated and burial was in the West Lebanon Cemetery. Mr. Powell was born Aug. 12, 1896, in Vermilion County, Ill., the son of Francis M. and June Gritten Powell. He was married Aug. 27, 1919 to Susie Ward, who survives. He had resided on Covington Rt. 1 for nine years. He formerly lived in Marshfield and Danville, Ill. He had been a brakeman for the New York Central Railroad. Surviving in addition to the wife, are: five sons, Chester of Rossville, Ind., Jim at home, Donald of Lafayette, Jack and Carl, both of Covington Rt. 1; one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Ricketts of Lafayette; two brothers, Paul F. of Danville and Robert Sr. of Williamsport Rt. 2; two sisters, Mrs. Viola Foote of Mackinaw, Ill., and Mrs. Dorothy Byers of West Lebanon; one step-daughter, Mrs. Gladys Crouch of Covington Rt. 2; one step-brother, Thomas Ward of Williamsport Rt. 2; 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. --typed by Walt W
