NEWTOWN — Clifford E. Pogue, lifelong resident of Fountain County, died at 12:40 p.m. Friday at Culver Hospital. Mr. Pogue, 82, was admitted to the hospital in September and had been in failing health for three years. For the last 13 years, he maintained a residence in Newtown. The deceased attended Valparaiso University and Marion College and had taught school in Richland Township for many years. In addition, he was associated with a brother in an Attica Chevrolet dealership for 11 years and had also been employed as a rural mail carrier. Born on Sept. 2, 1886, in Richland Township, he was the son of Frank and Emma Holmes Pogue. He was first married to Fleta Moore on Dec. 12, 1907. She died in 1951, and Mr. Pogue subsequently married Amy Funk McMurtrie who survives. The latter union was solemnized on June 1, 1952. Mr. Pogue was reared in Richland Township, but moved to Attica in 1928. He remained in that community until 1948 when he returned to Richland Township. He retired to Newtown proper from a farming operation nearby. Surviving besides the wife are two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Thompson of Newtown and Mrs. Vera Fisher of Scottsdale, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the DeSutter Funeral Home in Attica with Revs. Arthur Schenck and Peter Heemstra officiating. Burial will be in the Old Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. --typed by Walt W
