Orville Dean Ping,
73, of 2766 W. Bunkertown Road, Covington, died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, May 11,
2000 in the VA Medical Center, Danville, Ill. Born September 18, 1926, in
Covington, the son of Ralph James and Lucille Elizabeth (Davis) Ping, he was a
life resident of the Bunkertown area. He married Juanita Rose Knox on September
17, 1949, and she died August 2, 1993. Mr. Ping was a laborer and worked in
cellophane manufacturing for 23 years at Olin and Flexel. He was a World War II
veteran, serving in the U. S. Navy. He was a life member of Fountain County Old
Guard Post #2395 VFW. Surviving are a son, Dale Ping of Covington; four
daughters, Gloria (Marion) Cook of Cayuga, Kathleen “Kate” (Tom) Roysdon of
Attica, and Janeen (Scott) Baldwin and Marlene (Larry) Grubb, both of
Covington; four sisters, Lula Belle Mycroft and Marilyn (Tom) Allen, both of
Covington, Ruth Cook of Danville, Ill., and Carolyn (Don) Ridge of Terre Haute;
four brothers, Willard (Barbara) Ping, Walter Ping, Luther (Barbara) and
Darrell (Elizabeth) Ping, all of Covington; and 13 grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a son, Michael Ping. Visitation
was Monday at Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. Services were there at 11 a.m.
Tuesday, May 16, 2000, with Pastor Tim Auter officiating. Interment was in
Hicks Cemetery, Perrysville. – jlr
