PIERCE, John L. - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

NEWTOWN — John L. Pierce, 92, formerly of Newtown, died Thursday afternoon in Golden Manor Nursing Home at Ladoga. Mr. Pierce was a truck driver for 35 years and was employed with the Fountain County Highway Department during 1968-69. He was a member of Osborne Prairie Church and had attended Stone Bluff School. He was born Nov. 20, 1886 near Yeddo, a son of Andrew and Alice Green Pierce. On Sept. 2, 1930, he was married to the former Deffie Hedge Ratcliff, who died Nov. 10, 1969. Survivors are a son, Gale L. of Jamestown; a sister, Mrs. Ettie Poffinbarger of Newtown, a brother, Mort C. Pierce of Newtown; a step-son; a step-daughter; three grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Newtown Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Davis officiating. Friends may call after 11 a.m. Saturday at Crumley-Williams Funeral Home at Hillsboro.   --typed by Walt W
