Carl Edward Phillips, 70, of Route 1, Attica, Portland Arch, died Friday morning, Aug. 7, 1981, in Community Hospital at Williamsport. He had been a patient there one day but in failing health ten months. He was born at Pearson, Ark., and attended school at Devonshire, Ark., before moving to Portland Arch 30 years ago. In 1930, he was married at Heber Springs to Ruby Wright, who survives. Mr. Phillips had been employed as a laborer for Olin Industries at Covington, retiring in 1975. Surviving with the widow are two sons, Robert J. Phillips of Portland Arch and Jimmie E. Phillips of Mooresville; two daughters, Inez Walder of Attica; and Jeanette Taylor of Covington; three brothers, William Phillips and Horace Phillips, both of Heber Springs, Ark., & Sam Phillips of Route 1, Attica; three sisters, Elsie Bonsal and Ellen Rambo, both of Kingman, Ariz., and Gladys Russell of Glendora, Calif. Services Monday at Maus Funeral Home in Attica with John R. Walder officiating. Burial in Portland Arch Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Phillips, Jimmie Phillips, Leon Phillips, David Phillips, Gary Taylor and Allen Taylor - jlr

Carl Edward Phillips of Portland Arch, age 70, died Friday morning, August 7, in Community Hospital at Williamsport. He was born in Pearson, Arkansas, October 6, 1910, the son of Job and Ada L. Brown Phillips. July 19, 1930, he married Ruby Wright, who survives. Phillips worked at Olin Corporation before retiring six years ago.

  Surviving also are two daughters, Mrs. Inez Walder of Attica and Mrs. Jeanette Taylor of Covington; two sons, Robert J. of Portland Arch and James E. of Mooresville; three sisters, Mrs. Elsie Bonsal and Mrs. Ellen Rambo, both of Kingman, Arizona and Mrs. Gladys Russell of Glendora, California; three brothers, William and Horace, both of Heber Springs, Arkansas, and Sam of Attica; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
