Milton Petit, life resident of the Veedersburg community, died Sunday night at the Lake View Hospital in Danville after being critically ill for about 3 weeks. He had suffered a heart attack about two months ago and had been in declining health since. He was born May 30, 1882, in Veedersburg, the son of Marshall and Nancy Patton Petit. He is survived by his wife, Zala Brown Petit. Mr. Petit recently retired from active farming and he and Mrs. Petit moved to a new home in Veedersburg. He was active in Democratic politics for many years and had worked for the highway commission, the NY Central RR, and was Postmaster in Veedersburg. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Veedersburg Christian Church with the Rev. Richard Owen officiaiting. Burial was in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.

Veedersburg - Milton Petit, 70, lifelong resident of the Veedersburg community, died at Lake View Hospital in Danville, Ill Sunday night where he had been a patient for the past three weeks.  He had been in failing health for two months with a heart ailment and complications.  Born in Veedersburg, May 30, 1882, Mr. Petit was the son of Marshall and Nancy Patton Petit.  He was married Aug 22, 1920 to Zala Brown in Veedersburg.  The widow survives, together with two cousins Robert Patton of Veedersburg and Mrs. Vali Thomas of Kingman.  In his early life Mr. Petit was employed by the NY Central Railroad, first as a brakeman and later a conductor.  Long prominent in Democratic politics in Veedersburg, Mr. Petit served as assessor of Fountain County in the early 1930s. Also for about two years he served as postmaster of Veedersburg.  Mr. Petit also was connected with the Indiana State Highway Department for several years, serving as highway superintendent in the subdistricts of Veedersburg, Plymouth and Fowler. Mr. Petit was a member of the Veedersburg Masonic Lodge. Funeral services will be conducted at the Christian Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday in charge of the Rev. Richard Owen. Burial will take place in the Masonic Cemetery at Waynetown. Friends may call at the home.
