Funeral services for Gerry D. Perry, 24, RT. 2, Veedersburg, the victim of a fatal stabbing late Thursday at Alamo, wee held Sunday at the Woodrow Funeral Home in Kingman. Being held in Montgomery County Jail on a preliminary charge of second-degree murder is his twin brother, Terry L. Perry, originally of Veedersburg and now of Indianapolis.
Gerry Perry was dead on arrival at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday. Police said he died of a puncture wound in the neck and internal bleeding.
The incident in which he was killed allegedly took place in front of a house occupied by Ed Smith of Alamo. Smith told authorities he was at work at the time of the stabbing.
Witnesses to the incident were Smith’s wife, Susan, another woman, Ronnie Blanton, and the twins.
Sheriff Glen Sillery said witnesses told him a fight between the brothers occurred when Gerry became rough with one of the women present and Terry tried to interfere.
The argument, which started inside the house, reportedly moved to the front yard, where Terry was beaten with a club and Gerry was cut.
Witnesses told police Gerry got into a car owned by the Blanton woman by himself. He was driven to the hospital by Mrs. Smith, accompanied by the others. He was dead when he arrived at the emergency room.
Authorities were summoned at 10:55 p.m. The sheriff questioned witnesses at the hospital, while deputies and state police went to Alamo for evidence.
They reported finding a blood-smeared paring knife in the yard. Blood also was found in patches on the ground and on short pieces of wood, which may have been used as clubs.
Police are investigating the possibility that use of drugs may have preceded the fatal argument.
Sheriff Sillery said both Perry twins were “floaters” and that a permanent address could not be positively established for either.
Gerry Perry was born Dec. 27, 1949 at Crawfordsville, the son of Gerald and Mildred Keller Perry.
On Oct. 15, 1971, he married Shirley Cook, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Gerry D. II at home, his parents of Rt. 2, Veedersburg; two brothers, Conrad, Rt. 1, Kingman; Terry, Indianapolis; four sisters, Mrs. Lee (Hope) Riley, Mrs. Harold (Margaret) Smith and Mrs. Winona Jackson, all of Indianapolis and Mrs. Earl (Jeri) Robbins of Veedersburg, Rt. 2; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Minnie Perry of Rt. 1, Kingman, and several nieces and nephews.
