WESTVILLE, Ill. — Hugh E. Pender, 76, Westville, Ill. died Sunday, March 5, 2000 in United Samaritans Medical Center, Danville, Ill. He was born Sept. 30, 1923 in Marshall, the son of Rollie and Bessie Pender. He married Margaret May Sept. 4, 1947 in Kingman. She preceded in death April 28, 1967. He married Betty Culp June 1, 1968 in Lincoln, Ill., who survives. He graduated from Kingman High School in 1942. He went to the miltiary and was a World War II veteran of the Pacific Theater. After the military, he worked at General Motors in Tilton, Ill., retiring in 1967 in order to attend Lincoln Christian College for the mission field. He was ordained in the ministry in 1970 in Illinois. He graduated from Lincoln Christian College in 1971. In 1972, Hugh and his family left for service to the Lord in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), Africa. He preached in the African bush for 16 years, retiring in 1988 due to poor health. He and his wife have lived in Westville since then. He enjoyed fishing with grandchildren and teaching Sunday School at First Church of Christ in Georgetown, Ill. Survivors, besides the wife, include: two sons, Roland (Sheryl) Pender, Indianapolis and David (Margaret) Pender, Zimbabwe, Africa; a step son, Tony (Leanna) Culp, Lincoln, Ill.; two step daughters, Diana Smith, Veedersburg and Cathy (Alan) Fathauer, Tierra Verde, …….. – jlr
