PENCE, Charles E - WWII Vet

  Charles E. Pence, 72, of 4361 River Road, Sodus, Mich., died Thursday, at Memorial Hospital at St. Joseph.    Funeral mass was held Saturday, at 10 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Benton Harbor, of which he was a member.  Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with military graveside rites by VFW Post 1137.  Friends were received at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service, Benton Harbor.  Memorials may be made to Hospice At Home, Inc.   He was born Oct. 12, 1912, in Attica.  He retired in 1974 after 38 years employment at Superior Steel Corp.  He was a veteran of World War II and was a member and past commander of VFW Post 1137.   Survivors include his wife, the former Pauline Basey; one son, James, Salem, Ore.; one daughter, Barbara Pence, Benton Harbor; and one sister, Mrs. Foster (Helen) Knight, Roswell, N.M. - S
