A 22-year-old Newtown resident was killed instantly about 11 p.m. Tuesday two miles north of Waynetown on Indiana Route 25 when his auto overturned. Dead is Rex Andrew Pearson, who had been employed by Sam and Fletcher Kerr on their farm near Newtown. Dr. Samuel Miller, Montgomery County coroner and Merle Remley, Montgomery County sheriff investigated the crash. They reported that Pearson’s auto struck a pile of gravel, flew approximately 100’ in the air, landing on its top and crushing the auto. The officers said the gravel had been placed along the shoulder of the road to be used to sand the highway during bad weather. The coroner reported Pearson died of multiple fractures and internal injuries. Born Sept 30, 1939 he was the son of Andrew and Christine Verhey Pearson. He had graduated from Richland Township Schools. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Andrew Pearson of Newtown; two sisters, Linda at home and Mrs. Ruth Foust of Otterben; a brother, Harold in the Army at Ft. Knox, Ky and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. August Verhey of Attica. He was preceded in death by his father two years ago. The body was taken to DeSutter Funeral Home in Attica where arrangements are incomplete awaiting word from the brother in service. – kbz
