PAYTON, Gerald Wayne - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

WALLACE - Gerald W. Payton, 50, a Wallace native, died Thursday night at Woods Memorial Hospital in Milwaukee, Wis. He had undergone open heart surgery at the first of the year. Mr. Payton had lived at Fremont, Wis., since 1965 when he sold his farm in the Wallace area. He had been employed as an engineer and inspector by the Wisconsin State Highway Department. Prior to moving to Fremont he had farmed with his father near Wallace. He had also been a substitute mail carrier for Rt. 3, Crawfordsville. Mr. Payton served in an ordinance battalion during World War II. He was a graduate of Alamo High School in 1939. He was born June 30, 1921, the son of Clarence and Edna Miller Payton. On March 13, 1945, he married Eula M. Davis in Chicago. He is survived by the widow; his father; three sons, James who is serving in the U.S. Navy stationed at San Diego, Calif., Jack, who is serving in Vietnam and Jeffery at home; four daughters, Mrs. Judy Huff of Bloomington, Mrs. Jane Engel of Pine River, Wis., and Jeanne and Julie, both at home; one sister, Mrs. Janet Elder of Indianapolis; three grandsons; one granddaughter; aunts, uncles and cousins in the Waynetown and Alamo areas. Mr. Payton was preceded in death by his mother in 1954. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Servies-Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown. Rev. John R. Servies will officiate. Burial will be at the Wallace Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Tuesday.   --- typed by CA
