COVINGTON, Ind. (CNS) — Mrs. Margaret M. Payne, 70, a life resident of Covington, died at l:40 p.m. yesterday (Oct. 14, 1968) at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She had been a patient there since Sept. 30 and had been ill several years. Born March 9, 1898, at Covington, she was the daughter of John T. and Lena Rogers McNahon. She was married April 10, 1937, to Joe P. Payne, who survives. Mrs. Payne was the first operator of the auto license branch in Covington and ran the office for 20 years. Other survivors include several cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother, Roger. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald Vernon will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. The body is at the funeral home. Friends will be received after noon Wednesday. --typed by Walt W

Payne, 113 Jefferson St., who died Monday afternoon, Oct. 14, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill., were held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home here. The Rev. Father Donald Vernon, pastor of St. Joseph's Catholic Church here, officiated. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Payne is survived by: her husband, Joseph P. Payne, whom she married April 10, 1937; and several cousins including, Mrs. Homer Royal of Covington; Miss Magdalen McMahon and Mrs. Clara Broderick, both of Ft. Wayne; Mrs. Donald (Vergie Rogers) Starr, Mrs. Ross (Vera Louise Rogers) Dickerson, Mrs. Helen Marie Rogers Allison, Vernon Rogers and Roy Rogers, both of Veedersburg Rt. 2. --typed by Walt W

Surviving in addition to the husband are three cousins, Mrs. Homer (Josephine) Royal, Covington; Miss Magdalen McMahon of Ft. Wayne, and Mrs. Clara Broderick, also of Ft. Wayne. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Roger W. and Walter McMahon. The body is at Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home where friends will be received Wednesday afternoon and evening.
