Silas Deville Patton, retired farmer and banker died in his 91st year at his home in Veedersburg at 10:15 a.m. Friday April 4. He was a native of this county and had devoted his life to farming and banking and he and his late wife, Olive Trinkle Patton represented two of the oldest and best known families in Fountain County. The home farm had been entered by his father for homesteading, receiving a patent for the land from President Andrew Jackson. Mr. Patton had been in impaired health since he was seriously injured in a fall from the roof of the porch at his home last Jan 5. Since then he had been confined to Culver Hospital and later to his home. He was born on Nov 5, 1861 south of Veedersburg, the son of Silas and Mary Leggitt Patton. In 1884 he was married to Olive Trinkle who was born and grew up west of Veedersburg and who died 10 years ago. They spent most of their married life on the farm and moved to Veedersburg 36 years ago. Three years later he helped the late John L. Osborn and others to organize the Veedersburg State Bank and became its president a post he held until last Jan 1 when he retired. He had continued to look after his farms and remained a faithful
