TANGIER — Paul E. Patton, Sr., 68, Tangier, died at 7:05 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2001 from an apparent heart attack while traveling on State Road 234 in Kingman. He was born Sept. 6, 1932 in Metcalf, Ill., the son of Ed and Geneva Vale Patton. He married Mary L. Beeson Patton July 28, 1951. She survives. He was a 1950 graduate of Tangier High School. He was a member of the Mecca Christian Church. He was a self-employed businessman, owning and operating the Patton Trading Post in Rockville, Bloomingdale and Kingman for 16 years, and also Mary's Variety Shop in Kingman the past 21 years. Survivors, besides the wife, include: his father of Bloomingdale; six sons, Richard Patton, Tangier, Paul “Sam” Patton, Jr., Lodi, Jerry “Pud” Patton, Tangier, Dennis Patton, Tangier, John Patton, Kingman, and James Patton, Tangier; two daughters, Linda Branch, Bloomingdale and Jean Akers of Rockville; a brother, Bob Patton, Tangier; two sisters, Kathy Wade, Bloomingdale and Pat Bush, Kingman; a “herd” of several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Newnum and Nancy Miller and two grandchildren, Jordan Lee Patton and Sandra Kay Patton. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Gooch Funeral Home, 112 Howard St., Rockville, with Pastor Kenneth Majors and Pastor Jim Lane officiating. Burial will be in Rush Creek Cemetery, near Tangier. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. tonight (Wednesday) and before services on Thursday. – jlr
