The people of Button were surprised and painted to learn of the death of David Patton, one of the oldest settlers and most enterprising farmers of that township which occurred on Sunday last at his childhood’s home near Veedersburgh (sic) Ind. He left home in usual health on the 22nd and reached his destination the same evening was attacked with pneumonia during the following night and rapidly grew worse until he died. His funeral took place on Tuesday the sermon being preach by Rev. Musgrove of Danville, his old pastor and he was laid away besides his father, mother and two brothers and within a stone’s throw of the house in which he was united in marriage to his now sorrowing widow, Dec 10, 1844. He was born in Ross County, Ohio Dec 20, 1815 and emigrated with his parents to Fountain County, In in 1823 and moved to this county in 1854 where he has since resided. He leaves a widow and eight children – five sons and three daughters – to mourn his loss.
