COVINGTON, Ind. (CNS)-- Herbert D. Parrett, 73, of 1116 Washington, died at 1:55 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 23, 1971) at Lake View Memorial Hospital in Danville, Ill., where he had been a patient nine days. Born Oct. 12, 1898, in Troy Township, Fountain County, he was the son of James A. and Evaline Carnagy Parrett. On Oct. 6, 1921 he married Marie H. Murphy, who died June 18, 1970. A life resident of Covington, he was a 1918 graduate of Covington High. He was an Army veteran of World War I and letter carrier of Covington Route 1 for 33 years, retiring in 1959. For the past 10 years he was employed part-time at Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home. An avid sports fan, he attended all Covington High athletic events. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, charter member and past commander of Fulton Banta American Legion Post 291, member of Barracks Veterans of Foreign War 1995, Branch 3546 of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Tidal Knights of Pythias Lodge 36, the Covington High Athletic Boosters Club and the Farm Bureau. Survivors include a son, James E. of Covington; a daughter, Mrs. Alan (Betty Jo) Switzer of Covington Route 2; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ernest Moore officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery with military services. Friends will be received at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Saturday and after 3 p.m. Sunday. --typed by Walt W
