WEST POINT — Carl H. Palin, 74, a former Newtown resident and a resident of West Point since 1936, died at 3 a.m. Sunday in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. He was born Oct. 24, 1888, in Potomac, Ill., and his parents were Fred and Mary Williams Palin. On Oct. 22, 1921, he married Leah Haas. After her death, he married Fronia Kirkpatrick in 1936. He was a member of the Jackson Heights Methodist Church, served in the United States Navy from 1910 to 1914 and the United States Army from 1917 to 1919. He was a veteran of World War I and was a member of Lafayette American Legion Post 7. He was a retired farmer. Survivors include the widow; two sons, William Harmond of Gardenia, Calif., and John F. Palin of College Park, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs. A. M. King of Indianapolis and Mrs. W. S. Howard of Newtown; a step-son, Charles Kirkpatrick of Newtown; three sisters, Huldah Palin of Indianapolis, Agatha Palin of Crawfordsville and Ozark Palin of Newtown, and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Crumley Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Rev. Clarence Loveland officiating and burial in Newtown Cemetery. Funeral services for Carl H. Palin, 74, a retired farmer of near West Point, Ind were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Crumley Funeral Home in Hillsboro conducted by Rev. Clarence Loveland, with burial in the Newtown Cemetery. He died at 3 a.m. Sunday Aug 25, 1963 in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette where he had undergone surgery the preceding Tuesday. Mr. Palin was born on Oct 24, 1888 at Potomac, Ill, the son of Fred and Mary Williams Palin. In 1893 the family moved to Newtown. From 1910-1914 he served in the US Navy and later from 1917-1919 in the armed forces in WWI. He was a member of the Jackson Heights Methodist Church and American Legion Post 11. He was married on Oct 22, 1921 to Leah Haas who died May 4, 1928. On March 12, 1936, he married Fronia Kirkpatrick and she survives. Other survivors include two sons, William H. Palin of Gardenia, Calif; and John F. Palin of College Park, GA; two daughters, Mrs. WB Howard of Newtown and Mrs. AM King of Indianapolis; a stepson, Charles Kirkpatrick of Newtown and three sisters, Miss Hulda Palin of Indianapolis; Miss Agatha Palin of Crawfordsville and Miss Ozard Palin of Newtown and 9 grandchildren – kbz
