Veedersburg- John Emmett Padgett, 73, retired restaurant owner, died Friday morning in his home at Veedersburg. He had been in failing health four and one-half years. Born at Cloverland, Ind., Mr. Padgett was the son of John W. and Sarah Padgett. He married Mabel Kellar Aug. 10, 1911. Mr. Padgett was a member of the EUB Church and a past master of the Veedersburg Masonic Lodge. Survivors include the widow; a son, John Padgett, of Duncan, Okla.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The body was taken to the Fishero Funeral Home. Arrangements for the services are incomplete.

John Emmett Padgett, a well known businessman and farmer of the Veedersburg area died at 10 a.m. last Friday morning at his farm home east of Veedersburg. He had been in failing health about four and a half years.  Mr. Padgett was a former owner of Sunny Inn Café and filling station for many years and later owned and operated the Cardinal Café in Veedersburg.  Born July 10, 1890 at Cloverdale, he was the son of John W. and Sarah Padgett. He was married Aug 10, 1911 to Mabel Kellar who survives. He was the last member of his family.  Other survivors include a son, John of Duncan, Oklahoma; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.  Mr. Padgett was a pst master of the New Goshen Masonic Lodge and member of the EUB Church.  Funeral services were held at the Fishero Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Monday Oct 15. The Rev. J. Samuel Pritchard officiated. Burial was in the Clearview Cemetery at Brazil. The New Goshen Masonic Lodge No 557 conducted graveside rites. – kbz
