WINGATE, Ind. (CNS) — Harold Oxley, 59, of Wingate, died at 10:30 p.m. Monday (Jan. 31, 1977) at Home Hospital in Lafayette. He had been ill some time with multiple sclerosis. Born Aug. 18, 1917, at Wingate, he was the son of Charles D. and Nora E. Elmore Oxley. He was married March 21, 1939, at Wingate to Nellie Howard, who survives. Mr. Oxley had owned the H. & J. Oxley Insurance Agency in Wingate for 25 years and had served as town clerk for 20 years. He was a former director of the Wingate Building & Loan Association. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge 633. He graduated from Wingate High in 1935. Other survivors include two sons, Gerald of Lafayette and Jay of Wingate; a daughter, Mrs. Keith (Jill) Springer of Lafayette; and two grandsons, Seth Springer and John Oxley. Services will be at 2 p.m. EST Thursday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Waynetown. The Rev. Homer Hunsinger will officiate. Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery at Wingate. Friends will be received after 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family has requested any memorials be in the form of donations to the multiple sclerosis fund.
