Mrs. Marion Overpeck, familiarly known to everyone in this section as “Bobby” died last Wednesday night at 11:20 eastern time, Nov 26 at Kalamazoo, Michigan where she had been residing for treatment for the past few months.  Bobby was one of the Veedersburg community’s most highly respected young women, having a wide circle of friends from her activities in business, church and civic life.  Her death at the age of 35 saddened the entire community. She had been ill for the past year and seriously ill the past few days preceding her death.  Mr. and Mrs. Overpeck came to the Veedersburg community in business just two weeks after they were married March 1, 1936.  The Overpeck Hardware and Appliance Store in Veedersburg is now one of the town’s outstanding business establishments as the result of the effort of both Mr. and Mrs. Overpeck. Barbara L. “Bobby” Overpeck was born Oct 5, 1917, at Rockville, a daughter of Charles S and Eva Nichols Sappenfield. She is survived by her husband, Marion, the parents of Rockville; four sisters, Mrs. Annabelle Winn and Mrs. Rosalie Cottrell both of Rockville; Mrs. Audrey Clark of Hammond and Mrs. Norma Jean Howard of Veedersburg; the stepfather, George Weeder of Rockville; a brother, George Sappenfield of Rockville and several nieces and nephews. She was a graduate of Rockville HS and member of the Sterling Christian Church, Veedersburg chapter Order of Eastern Star, Business and Professional Women’s Club, the American Legion Auxiliary and served as mother advisor to the Order of Rainbow for Girls. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Sterling Christian Church with Rev. Guy T. Walters officiating. Burial was in the Memory Gardens at Rockville with the Fishero Funeral Home in charge. – kbz
