Hospital., He was born Sept 10 1914 in Covington, the son of Warren and Myra Wisher Myers.
He married his high school sweetheart, Frances Baldwin, Sept 15 1934 and in 1998 they celebrated their 64th anniversary. She preceded in death June 19 1999.
He graduated from Covington High School during the Depression with the class of 1932 and Indiana College of Mortuary Science in 1934. he was a licensed embalmer and funeral director and worked for funeral home in Covington, Attica, Kingman and Veedersburg. He was Fountain County coroner in t he late 1930's and early 1940's and served in the State Legislature in t he late 1950's and early 1960s.
In 1941, Wisher and Frances established Myers Department Store. From 1947 to 1957 the Myers family owned and operated several popular drive-in theaters, the Dixie and the Illiana in Danville Ill and the East Side Auto Theater in Terre Haute. They also farmed and raised cattle in southern Fountain County. A life resident of Fountain County, he will be remembered for his community spirit and philanthropy. He was a charter member and former member of the Veedersburg Lions Club and served as District Governor. He was a member of the Veedersburg United Methodist church, Veedersburg Masonic Lodge and Terre Haute Scottish Rite. He served on the Wabash Valley Interstate Commerce Commission. He was instrumental in preserving the Hub Civic Center for community use and expanding the Fountain County 4-H Fairgrounds. He served on the 4-H Council and helped form the 4-H Foundation.
Survivors include two sons, Dr. Charles (Sandra) Myers and Dr. David (Trudie) Myers, both of Attica; two grandsons Dr. Jeff (Julie) Myers and Ward Myers; two granddaughters, Dr. Julie (Brian) Ross and Tara Myers;
four great grandchildren, Emily and Brady Myers and Megan and Amanda Ross; a sister, Marcia (Harold) Hanley, Covington, and a brother, John T. (Carol) Myer s, a former congressman of Covington. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday in Shelby Funeral Home, Covington with Rev. Rob Rixman officiating. Memorials to the Veedersburg United Methodist Church or Fountain County 4-H Foundation.
