Source: Crawfordsville Journal Review Saturday, 12 September 1874
Thomas Hemphill received a dispatch from Bunkum, Ill., on Monday evening, stating that Smalley, son of Eli Mounts, a former resident of this place, had been killed by the caving of a well in which he was at work. His neck and arms were broken, and his body horribly crushed. A boy named Goddard was caught in the well at the same time, but was dug out alive.—Attica Ledger
