Everett J. Montgomery, 75, of 1212 S. Brady street, died at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 1962, at Community Hospital in Williamsport. He had been in failing health four years and had been admitted to the hospital at 6:50 p.m.
Born July 26, 1886, in Ridgefarm, Illinois, he was the son of John and Sarah Bishop Montgomery. He was a conductor on the Danville urban line for several years and then he moved to Spencer, Indiana, where he was a dairy farmer. He later returned to Danville to become a street car conductor again.
In 1928, he moved to Ambia, Indiana, where he owned and operated a restaurant and boxball alley. He came to the Attica area in 1930 and became a farmer. Two years later, he became a circulation manager for The Commercial News in the Attica area.
In June, 1937, he was appointed a justice of the peace. He then established and operated the Attica Credit Bureau until he retired a year and a half ago.
Mr. Montgomery had been active in all political and civic affairs.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Fletcher of Attica; four sons, Charles at home, Marvin of Costa Mesa, California, Max of Goldsboro, North Carolina, and Gene of Attica; a sister, Mrs. Jesse Compton of Danville; a brother, Ed of Danville; 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Wayne, one week ago.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the DeSutter funeral home.
The Rev. Everett White officiated. Burial was in Riverside cemetery. - jz
