Robert Emmett Moffett, son of James G. and Alice Dice Moffett was born March 31, 1892 on a farm near Wallace in Fountain County, Indiana. He attended the public school at Frog Pond and Stream Corner and was graduated from Veedersburg HS in 1908.  He attended Purdue University for two years. On Feb 23, 1914 he was united in marriage with Miss Opal Ratcliffe, and two sons were born to the union: John Stephen of Kingman and Richard of Indianapolis survive their father as well as the widow. Mr. Moffett worked for a short time as a garage mechanic after which he entered the US Postal Service as a Railroad Mail Cler in 1916.  He was intensely interested in music and often assisted in Evangelistic services.  As a soloist or director, his rich baritone voice was always a joy to him and his listeners.  He served as State Chorister of the Indiana State Letter Carriers’ Association for two years.  When a young man he was converted and placed his membership in the Scotts Prairie Christian Church near his home, later transferring his membership to Rockville Presbyterian Church.  Upon his return to Veedersburg he again transferred his membership to Scotts Prairie. He was of a deeply religious nature and was always mindful of his obligation to his church and to his God.  In 1917 he was  appointed Rural Route Mail Carrier out of Yeddo, Indiana where he served for 14 years. From there he was transferred to Rockville and served 20 years more.  He retired from the Postal Service after 35 years of service and moved from Rockville to Veedersburg where he passed away Dec 29, 1957. While serving as Rural Carrier, he found time for other activities. He was interested in his farm and the welfare of the community in which he lived.  He was state president of the Indiana Rural Letter Carriers Association for two terms of two years each.  He was also a Past Master of the Wallace F&AM member of the Valley of Indianapolis Scottish Rite, member of Rockville Eastern Star.  He is survived by his wife and two sons, one sister, Ethel Moffett Maris of Kingman; one brother, J. Gordon Moffett of Covington; five grandchildren: Ronald G and Sharon Moffett of Kingman; Robert W; Susan Lee and John Richard Moffett of Indianapolis.  He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and George Moffett. Bob as he was best known, always had a sunny smile and a hearty handshake for his friends and such a man has many friends.  He was a kindly man with a great love for his family and home. – kbz
