HILLSBORO—Mrs. Marilou Mitman, 40, a native of the Hillsboro community, died early Sunday morning in the Robert Long Hospital at Indianapolis where she had been a patient the past week. Previously she was a patient at Culver Hospital at Crawfordsville. She was taken to the hospital after becoming suddenly ill at her home. Born Sept. 29, 1916 Mrs. Mitman was the daughter of Joseph and Fanny Witt Slazas. She was married twice, first on Feb. 29, 1940 to Thomas Flanigan, who was killed in February 1955 in the European Theater of Operations in World War II. A daughter, Tomilou, was born to this union. In 1949 she married Ben Mitman, who survives. Also surviving, besides the husband and the daughter by the first marriage, are three other daughters, Lucy Beth, Cynthia and Andrea; three sons, Oliver Bert, Jay and Wilton; the mother, two brothers, John and George Slazas, both of near Veedersburg, and three sisters, Mrs. Lucy Crumley of Hillsboro, Mrs. Nellie Nusbaum of Lancaster, Ohio, and Mrs. Roberta Brokaw of Fort Branch, Ind. She was preceded in death by the father and a brother, Stanley Slazas. Mrs. Mitman was a graduate of the Hillsboro High School and the Indiana University School of Nursing. She was a member of the Hillsboro Methodist Church, Fountain County Nurses Club, and the Hillsboro Harmony Club. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Hillsboro Methodist Church, with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. Rev. G. T. Johnson will be the officiating minister. The body will lie in state at the church one hour preceding the rites. Friends may call at the Crumley Funeral Home, beginning at noon Monday. typed by Walt W.

The untimely death of Mrs. Marilou Mitman, 40 cast a gloom over the entire community. She died at the Robert Long Hospital in Indianapolis at 12:45 a.m. Sunday Aug 25, 1957 where she had been a patient for almost a week. Mrs. Mitman suffered a hemorrhage at the base of the brain at her home in Hillsboro on Friday Aug 16. She was removed to Culver Hospital, Crawfordsville and the following Monday was removed to Robert Long to be under the care of a specialist.  She was born near Hillsboro Sept 29, 1916 the daughter of Joseph and Fanny Witt Slazas. She was a member of the 1934 graduating class of Hillsboro HS and from the Indiana School of Nursing in 1938. On Feb 29, 1940 she was married to Thomas Flanigan who was killed in Feb 1945 while serving in the European Theater during World War II. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hillsboro Methodist Church with Rev. GT Johnson local pastor officiating. Piano selections by Josef Carnes, Hillsboro preceded the service and he also accompanied Mrs. Mable Brown who sang two of his compositions, I Will Come Again and In God’s Tomorrow.  Serving as pall beraers and flower bearers were: Johnie Lazas, Ray Slazas, James Slazas, Kevin Zachary, Robert Myers and Frank Kromm.  Burial in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro. – kbz
