  Fountain County recorded its first traffic fatality Sunday when a young Covington motorist died in a single-car crash on I-74 three miles east of Covington.

  Dead is Ronald L. Mitchell, 26, who was killed instantly of head and internal injuries.
  State police said Mitchell was enroute east on I-74 when his car traveled off the roadway and struck a guardrail on the right side of the road. The victim was thrown from the car.

  Exact time of the accident is unknown. It was reported to police at 4:47 a.m., Jan. 7. Investigating were state trooper Bill Nave and the Veedersburg Police Department.

  Ronald Louis Mitchell was born Aug. 6, 1946, in Indiana, the son of Lowell and Gladys Allen Mitchell. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and was a mechanic at the Chevrolet garage in Covington. He was a member of the American Legion at Rockville.

  He is survived by a daughter, Stephanie, Maryland; his mother, Gladys Mitchell, Rockville; three brothers, Raymond, Edinburgh; James, U.S. Navy; Larry, Covington; three sisters, Doris Smith, Barbara Beverly and Patty Mendenhall, all of Rockville. – thanks S
