Source: The obituary is from a collection by Fauniel Hershberger, saved the 1950's, 60's and 70's. She was a life long resident of Fountain County Indiana.  The collection is now housed at Crawfordsville District Public Library.
Earl died 26 Sept 1927

Earl Mitchell, son of William and Martha Mitchell was born in Montgomery County, Indiana Feb 2, 1886. Almost his entire life was spent within a radius of a few miles of Kingman, Indiana. February 19, 1909 he was united in marriage to Blanche Hobson and to this union one child was born, a son, named Carl. The mother was not permitted to stay with her family but a short time for she passed to her reward November 17, 1911. He was united in marriage the second time to Hattie Clark, March 5, 1919. The subject of this sketch was among the many other brave and honored young men who offered their lives for their country at the time of the World War. He was never sent over seas but remained in camp for some time and was sent to almost every state in the union as a guard for bodies of soldiers who had died in camp. At the time of his last sickness his suffering was terrible and he realized that death was certain and was desirous of being prepared to meet his Savior, he made a beautiful a repentance prayer as was ever uttered and smiling, told the family he had received forgiveness and was ready and willing to die, his very countenance showing the expression of forgiveness. At the last of his sickness he was taken to the hospital at the Soldiers Home in Danville Ill but nothing could be done to relieve the suffering and he passed away Sept 26, 1927 at the age of 41 years 7 months and 24 days. A dear wife and son are left to mourn their loss, besides a father, brother and fie sisters. The funeral was in charge of the Kingman Undertaking Company who aid materially in giving him a military burial since the Legion Posts of Covington, Yeddo, Rockville and Terre Haute, turned out in goodly numbers and gave their comrade a regular military funeral Covington furnishing the firing squad. Interment in Centennial cemetery.
