Funeral services were held at West Point Wednesday for Pfc Dwight S. Mitchell, Jr. who died at the Nichols General Hospital in Louisville, Ky where he had been a patient three months.  Death came as the result of wounds he received July 30 while serving with the US Army  in France.  Pfc. Mitchell was 20 years old and was the son of Dwight and Rilla Cheesman Mitchell.  The father, a former resident of Veedersburg now resides in Lafayette. Surviving besides the parents are two sister, Mildred now with the Women’s Reserve Marine Corps and Mrs. Harry Walker.  

Note: I assume this is him Dwight Samuel “Sonny” Mitchell Jr. – born 7 Nov 1924 Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, Indiana died 10 Feb 1945 Jeferson Co KY Buried: West Point Cemetery, Tippecanoe County, Indiana. His entry on FindAGrave says he was the husband of Alvina LaVendure – and “died from wounds sustained in invasion of Normandy.
