Delores Louise MINTON, 65 of Danville, died at 8:05 p.m. Sunday Feb 16, 1992 at USMC, Sager Campus. Born Jan 20, 1926 in Vermillion County, Ind, daughter of Cecil and Berneice Martin Tallman, she married Maurice Wallen on Nov 27, 1947 in Kingman, Ind. She later married Morris Minton on Aug 28, 1970 in Panama City, Fla, He survives, along with her mother, Berniece Tallman and one daughter, Marcella (Richard) Wallace, all of Danville; two sons, Gregory D. Wallen of Oakwood and Mark R. Wallen of Indianapolis; two step daughters, Dolly (Tommy) Barker of Des Moines, Iowa and Pamela (Joe) Jakes of Anderson, Ind; two sisters, Beverly (Charles) Long and Betty McNeese both of Danville; five grandchildren, Richard (Deke) Wallace of Memphis, Tenn; Jamie Hernandez of Danville; Alexis Bergan of Champaign; Jonathan Wallace of Danville and Troy G. Wallen of Lafayette, Ind; extended family Billy Jakes of Anderson, Ind; Lora Barker and Logan Barker, both of Davenport, Iowa; three great grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Minton was very active for over 30 years at Second Church of Christ, sharing several fellowships and committees. She was also an associate member of Bonita Springs Christian Church in Bonita Springs, Fla. After graduation from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in 1947. Mrs. Minton pursued a long and enriching career in nursing, specializing in Operating Room nursing for over 40 years, both at St. Elizabeth Hospital and as a supervisor at Veterans Administration Hospital where she retired in 1986. She was Assistant Director of Nursing at Danville Care, retiring in 1990. While employed, she continued her education through many professional and government-related courses. Her worldwide travels included trips to Russia; China and Europe as Nursing Advisor-Consultant. She was past president of American Nurses Association, Association of Operating Room Nurses and St. Elizabeth Hospital Alumni Association. She was a member of American Nurses Foundation and NGO Birthday Club of Kingman, Ind. She had been a Board Member of USMC Women’s Auxiliary. Her current Board positions included Vermilion County Churches of Christ and Christian Campus Foundation. After retiring, Mrs. Minto traveled to the Northwest Haiti Mission for two weeks each year. She once described her work in the mission field of Haiti as a “mountaintop experience.” One of the true joys of her life was her involvement at Lincoln Christian College where she was a trustee. She had great respect for those student who pursued Christian higher education. Funeral services 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Second Church of Christ with Randy Kirk and Dr. Charles McNeely officiating. Burial Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation 3-8 p.m. Tuesday at Sunset Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be made to Lincoln Christian Church and Muscular Dystrophy. – kbz
