SIMON MINNICK  one of the oldest men of the county and among its earliest settlers, died Saturday morning at his home in Veedersburg at the age of 93.   He had been in fairly good health until within the past few months but for some time had been failing both physically and mentally.   He was brought to this county when only 9 years of age and lived in Van Buren township for about 84 years.  His wife was Prudence Boord, a sister of Oliver Boord of Covington, and they had celebrated their 72d anniversary in March.  He leaves the widow, one daughter, Mrs. Watkins of Danville, and four sons, George and Frank of Veedersburg, Fletcher of Stone Bluff, and Elijah, of Newtown.

He had been blind for nearly 20 years but his faithful wife watched over and waited on him as no one else could have done.  Mr. Minnick held a high place in the respect and affections of his neighbors and friends.   His gentle, kindly nature was shown to all and his cheerfulness under the affliction of total blindness was remarkable.

The funeral was conducted at 2:30 Monday afternoon and interment was made at Osborn’s Prairie church cemetery, where many of his relatives and friends had been laid away. -s - e
