John Mills, for many years a resident of this city and vicinity, died at his home in Malvern, Iowa, on March 25, of lung fever. He was well and favorably known in Fountain and has many friends here who will learn of his death with sorrow. A son died of the same disease only two weeks previous and this last affliction has made the family almost heart broken.

Mr. John L. Mills died at this residence in Indian Creek Township. He came from Indiana two years ago. First resided north of Malvern. He was a hard working man - gained the confidence of all. Family sorely afflicted this spring (a month ago) a beloved father and brother died. A second son is seriously ill. Mr. Mills died 26 March 1884 with typhoid pneumonia.
A note from Adina Watkins Dyer: while in Attica, I think he served as a sheriff for a period of time. He was a brother of my ancestor Anna who married Samuel Carter. They were children of James F. and Jemima (Lucas) Mills.
