Vian Agy, daughter of Jacob and
Alief Evans, was born Aug. 20, 1814; died July 15, 1898. Aged 84 years, 10
months and 26 days. Her father’s home at the time of her birth was in Haywood
county, N.C. She was married to Jacob A. Miller, July 12, 1831, and to this
union was born 13 children. They moved to Tennessee in 1859, thence to Kentucky
in 1863, where her husband died Aug. 14, 1865 at the age of 54 years, 2 months
and 4 days, leaving her with 11 children, part of whom were grown. About three
months later, she with her children, except one, Rufus Asberry, moved to
Hillsboro, Ind., in and near which place and Veedersburg, she lived the
remainder of her life. After an illness of four months she passed away in sweet
peace just as the sun was setting. The deceased was converted and joined the M.
E. church at the age of 11 years, and for 74 years lived a good and wholly
consecrated Christian life, leaving an example worthy of the imitation of us
all. She leaves five sons and three daughters to mourn their loss; three sons
and two daughters having passed away previously, one of whom, Rufus Asberry,
was buried one week ago in their old home town, Ashville, N.C. Sister Miller
was a remarkable woman in every particular; a kind neighbor, a tender and
loving mother and a faithful Christian. She will be missed most in her home
because her advanced age prevented her public appearance, but we will remember
that noble life that has been taken from our midst and translated to the spiritual
and unseen world. The funeral services were conducted at their home in
Veedersburg or Sunday afternoon, July 16, Rev. Spohn officiating. Interment at
Hillsboro cemetery. – jlr
