Veedersburg -- Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, April 6, at the Crumley Funeral Home in Hillsboro for Samuel J. Mettee, age 82, a lifetime resident of Veedersburg, who died unexpectedly at his home in Veedersburg at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 3. He had been in failing health one year. The Rev. Conley Rowland officiated. Burial was in the Union Cemetery near Newtown. Mr. Mettee, the son of Joseph and Lillian Rennicker Mettee, was born Dec. 19, 1880, in Veedersburg. He was married to Leona Strader on Feb. 22, 1901, and they had celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary. Mr. Mettee was a retired employee of the Veedersburg Brick Co. Surviving are his wife; eight children, Gordon of Attica, Mrs. Inez Shirley of Williamsport, Mrs. Vivian Hankins of Veedersburg, Mrs. Katherine Allen of Perrysville, Harold and Raymond both of Veedersburg, Mrs. Lois Richardson of Kingman and Mrs. Esther Biddle of Veedersburg; a sister, Mrs. Ella Booe of Veedersburg, 24 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. --typed by Walt W

Samuel J. Mettee, life resident of Veedersburg, died at his home on Wednesday evening, April 3. He had been in failing health for the past year but death was unexpected.
Mr. Mattee was born in Veedersburg on December 19, 1880, the son of Joseph and Lillian Rennicker Mettee. On February 22, 1901, he was united in marriage with Lona Strader, who survives.
He was employed at the Hydraulic Press Brick Plant in Veedersburg for about forty years and had retired fifteen years ago.
Other survivors include three sons, Gordon of Attica, Harold and Raymond, both of Veedersburg, and five daughters, Mrs. Inez
Shirley of Williamsport, Mrs. Catheryn Allen of Perrysville, Mrs. Lois Richardson of Kingman, Mrs. Vivian Hankins and Mrs. Esther Biddle both of Veedersburg. One son preceded him in death. Twenty-four grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at the Crumley Funeral Home in Hillsboro at 2 p.m. on Saturday,. April 6. The Rev. Conley Rowland will officiate with burial in the Union Cemetery at Newtown.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday evening and Friday afternoon and evening. - jz
