ATTICA — Funeral services for Daniel Merritt Messmore, 86-year-old retired farmer and carpenter, who died Thursday, Jan. 23, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the DeSutter Funeral Home here. The Rev. Ronnie DeLong of the Christian Church officiated and burial was at Newtown. Mr. Messmore, who was born Nov. 26, 1877 in Mellott, succumbed in the Burnett Nursing Home in Lafayette. He was the son of Charles Wilson and Sidney Jane Kellogg Messmore. He was married Jan. 2, 1901 in Newtown to Lida Shultz, who preceded him in death in 1946. Survivors include: one daughter, Mrs. Twyla Dexter of Lafayette; one son, Morris, of Danville, Ill..; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.   --typed by Walt W

Daniel Merrill Messmore, of Attica, a former resident of Sterling and Veedersburg and a native of Mellott, died in a Lafayette Nursing Home at 10:10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, after a lengthy period of ill health.  He had been a patient in the nursing home since Oct. 30.
Mr. Messmore had been a farmer and carpenter and was born on Nov. 26, 1877, at Mellott, the son of Charles and Sidney Jane Kellogg Messmore.  He retired two years ago.  He was married Jan. 2, 1901, in Newtown to Lida Shultz who died in 1946.
Survivors include one son, Morris Messmore of Danville, Ill., formerly of Veedersburg, and one daughter, Mrs. Twyla Dexter of Lafayette, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. .Saturday at the DeSutter Funeral Home in Attica, conducted by Ronnie DeLong, pastor of the Christian Church, with burial in the Newtown Cemetery.
