Ross Ervin Merryman, age 67, a resident of Covington most of his life, died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 24, at his home at 915 Crocket St. He had been in ill health several years. Mr. Merryman was born Feb. 4, 1897, the son of James and Anna Fishero Merryman. He was married June 20, 1916, to LaVonne Wiese, who survives. He was a retired clerk of the Allith Prouty Co., in Danville, Ill. and had formerly resided in Danville for 15 years. He also had operated a business on Third St. in Covington. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: one son, James at home; three daughters, Mrs. Mildred Grubbs at home, Mrs. Margaret Ricketts of Terre Haute and Mrs. Virginia Tuggle of Vallejo, Calif.; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and one sister. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Hegg Funeral Home in Covington. The Rev. Glenn Ray, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Covington officiated and burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. -- jlr
