CATES — Ben E. Merryman, 84 and a retired farmer of Rt. 2, Kingman, died at 4:25 p.m. Monday in St. Elizabeth Hospital at Danville, Ill. He had been a patient there for three weeks and had been in ill health for many years. Mr. Merryman was a life resident of Fountain County and lived in the Cates area for 55 years. He was a member of the Modern Woodsmen of America. Mr. Merryman was born April 21,1891 at Covington, a son of James and Anna Fishero Merryman. He was married to Mary Snoddy, May 29, 1912. She preceded him in death Feb. 13, 1971. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Ray (Martha) Staggs, with whom he made his home; two sons, William Randolph of Rt. 1, Hillsboro and Harold Leon of Veedersburg; a brother, Paul of Covington; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Alma) Nicklas of Covington; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, a brother and a sister. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home at Covington, with the Rev. Robert Tharp officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Ben E. Merryman, 84, of Kingman Route 2, died at 4:25 p.m. Monday (Sept. 15, 1975) at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill. He had been a patient three weeks and ill several years.
Born April 21, 1891, in Covington, he was the son of James and Anna Fishero Merryman. On May 29, 1912, he married Mary Snoddy, who died Feb. 13, 1971.
A life resident of Fountain County, he had resided in the Cates area for 55 years. He was a retired farmer and a member of Modern Woodman Lodge.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ray (Martha) Staggs, with whom he resided; two sons, William Rudolph of Hillsboro Route 1 and Harold Leon of Veedersburg; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Alma) Nicklas of Covington; a brother, Paul of Covington; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, a sister and a brother.
