Nettie Brooks Mendenhall, daughter of William and Annie Barker was born near Marshall, Parke County, Indiana on December 25, 1849.  She died Saturday May 5, 1945 at the Indiana State Soldiers and Widows Home,
Lafayette Indiana at the age of 95 years, 4 months 10 days.  She grew to young womanhood in the vicinity of her birth and in the year 1868 she was married to Samuel R. Brooks.  Four children were born to this union,
William T. Brooks, C.E. Brooks, L.O. Brooks and Herbert Roy Brooks.  Mrs. Mendenhall is survived by two sons: E.E. Brooks of Fargo, ND and L.O. Brooks of Denver, Co lorado; also 8 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.  After the death of her first husband, Nettie Brooks was married in the year 1922 to Ephraim Mendenhall. There were no children born to this union.  Mr. Mendenhall passed away in 1929 and since that time, Mrs. Mendenhall has resided alone excepting the last several years when she made her home in the
Soldiers Home at Lafayette.  Nette (sic) Brooks and her husband came to Veedersburg in the year 1879 and this has be en her place of residence since that time. Soon after coming here she became a member of the Christian Church at Veedersburg and was a member of that church at the time of her death.  The life of Mrs. Nettie (sic) Brooks Mendenhall spaned (sic) a period of time that ties up this generation with the early settlers of this section of Indiana.  Those of us who knew her feel keenly the loss sustained by her loved ones and share with them the sorrow that is theirs.   - thanks to Betty Dotson for this obit
