Died at his residence near Hillsboro in this county on the 25th day of the present month, Absalom Mendenhall, Esq in the 68th year of his age. T He deceased was one of the pioneers of the Wabash Valley, having penetrated its forests at a period when its wild denizens still roamed in undisturbed possession. He grew with our county, winning and retaining the attachment and esteem of all who knew him. Kind, simple minded and generous, he has left to his children the richest of earthly legacies, a reputation unstained, and a character for integrity which the vicissitudes of fortune found immoveable. In all relations of life he was just and confiding. The confidence of his fellow-citizens was frequently displayed by the bestowment upon him of various offices of trust. In 1840 he was elected a member of our state senate but having been struck with paralysis during the first session, he resigned at its close. He died a professed and trusting Christian, firm in the hope of a blessed immortality through the mediation of our crucified Redeemer. (Aug 30)
