MELSON, Mattie Black - Fountain County INGenWeb Project

VEEDERSBURG -- Mrs. Mattie Melson, 88, a native of the Veedersburg community died Tuesday night at the home of a son, Walter Meson in Lafayette. She had visited her son during the past month. Death was the result of a stroke.  In recent years, she had made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Paul Markel of Terre Haute.  Born in Fountain County October 6, 1877, she was the daughter of Frank and Sarah Black.  Her marriage was to John Melson who died in 1945.  During her early life she was employed as a switchboard operator in Kingman. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Veedersburg.  Surviving besides her son, Walter, are a daughter, Mrs. Paul Markel and a stepson, Ralph Melson of Veedersburg.
