VEEDERSBURG, Ind. - Services were 2 p.m. Sunday at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington for Edward H. Mellinger, 52, a resident of Veedersburg Rt. 2 for the past 15 years. He died about 7:40 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 1971 of injuries received in a truck-train crash on Route 32 at the Norfolk & Western Railroad crossing. The Rev. Dale Cadman officiated. Burial was in Coal Creek Cemetery. Born Nov. 23, 1918, in Rockfield, he was the son of Cloyd D. and Emma Faye Herr Mellinger. He was married Aug. 3, 1940, to Lela Jane Plumlee, who survives. Mr. Mellinger had been an ironworker and was a member of the International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Iron Workers Local 379. He was a former resident of Perrysville and held the distributorship for Blue Barn Dog Food in this area. He was a veteran of service in the Army during World War II and was a past master of Unity Masonic Lodge 344. Other survivors include his mother of Perrysville; three sons, Edward H. Jr. of Veedersburg Rt. 2, Jerry Lee of Perrysville and John J. of Terre Haute; a daughter, Mrs. Sandra Jane Stephens of Bethalto, Ill.; three brothers, Guy of Little Rock, Ark., James of Perrysville and Darrell of Indianapolis; two sisters, Mrs. Jeanette Koleck of Wichita, Kan., and Mrs. Carol Jean Snider of Attica; and five grandsons. He was preceded in death by his father. -- jlr
