Attica – Charles H. Meihls, 71, of 411 E. Jackson St, died unexpectedly Friday.  He and his wife were visiting friends when he complained of feeling ill and went to his car, where he was found at 7:15 pm. By Mrs. Meihls.  A life resident of Attica, he operated a retail grocery store here for many years.  He was a member of the Free Methodist Church.  He was married in Covington to Fannie Yahley in 1912. She survives with one son, Charles of Attica; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Scarlett and Mrs. Daisy Bowen both of Attica and two brothers, Lawrence of Veedersburg and Archie of Lafayette.

“Funeral Notices” – Charles H. Meihls – Friends may call after 4 p.m. Sunday at DeSutter Funeral Home, Attica. The body will lie in state one hour before services at 2 p.m. Monday in the Free Methodist Church; the Rev. Burt Shinkle officiating; burial in Riverside Cemetery.


Source: The obituary is from a collection by Fauniel Hershberger, saved the 1950's, 60's and 70's. She was a life long resident of Fountain County Indiana.  The collection is now housed at Crawfordsville District Public Library.    ~1963~

Attica — Charles H. Meihls, age 71, of 411 E. Jackson St., died suddenly at about 7 p.m. Friday, April 5, in his car on W. Jackson St. in Attica. Mr. Meihls had been visiting relatives and stepped out of the house to get some fresh air. Apparently not feeling well he sat down in his car and died. Mr. Meihls was born Nov. 10, 1891, at Attica, the son of Milton and Mary Frances Custer Meihls. He was married Nov. 11, 1912, to Fannie Yahley at Covington. Mr. Meihls operated a grocery store until he retired four years ago. Surviving are his wife; a son, Charles Lee, at home; two brothers, Lawrence of Veedersburg and Archie of Lafayette; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Scarlett and Mrs. Daisy Bowen, both of Attica. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday, April 8, at the Free Methodist Church. The Rev. Burl Shinkle officiated. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery with the DeSutter Funeral Home in charge.  --typed by Walt W
