Joseph Ross Meeker, 54, who was a carpenter and bricklayer in Veedersburg for many years died Wednesday night after an illness of four years. Mr. Meeker was born near Stone Bluff Jan 30, 1903, the son of Halford and Lura Lively Meeker. He was married March 20, 1928 to Alberta A. Smith (sic - Alberta?) in Veedersburg. Mr. Meeker was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Veedersburg. Survivors include the father; 3 sons, Norman, Jim and Zane; one daughter, Nola; two brothers, George and Gordon and one sister, Mrs. Vivian Heilman. Funeral services will be held at the EUB Church in Veedersburg at 2 p.m. Friday with Rev. Samuel Pritchard officiating The body will be in state at the church for one hour before service. - kbz

Joseph Ross Meeker, 54, died at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday Sept 11 at his home on Rural Route One, Veedersburg. He had been in failing health four years and seriously ill one year. He was born at Stone Bluff on Jan 31, 1903, the son of Holford Meeker of Plymouth Indiana and the late Lura Lively Meeker. He was married to Laura Alberta Smith on March 20, 1928 and she survives. Also surviving are four children: Norman of Crawfordsville and Nola Jim and Zane, all at home; a sister, Mrs. Vivian Hileman of Michigan City, Indiana; two brothers, George O. Meeker of Kingston, Texas and Gordon Meeker of Plymouth, Ind and the father. He was a carpenter in the Veedersburg community and was last employed as a brick layer at the Harrison Steel Casting Company in Attica. He was a member of the Veedersburg EUB Church where services will be held this afternoon Friday at 2 o’clock with Rev. JS Pritchard officiating. Burial will be in Rockfield Cemetery with Fishero Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. – kbz
