MATTOX, Elijah

Elijah D. Mattox, well known farmer died at his home in Davis Twp Monday night after a long ile suffered a paralytic sroke early in the summer from which he never fully recovered. Mr. Mattox was born in Kentucky Jan 25, 1840. He came to Indian when a veery small child with his parents, John Wesley and Cynthia Ann Mattox, and settled near Peru. After his father's death Elijah was bound out and at the age of 8 years ran away and came to Fountain county. By industry and hard labor he became owern of a fine farm in Davis Twp and was one of the influential farmers of this community. In August 15 he was married to Mark Funk, to this union were born 10 childlren: Nettie, now the wife of James Nuss of Long Beach, Calif; Willard, residing in Hammond; Anna, wife of Edmund Busenbark of Wavevland; Hiram, deceased; Daniel of Butte, Montana; Lee of Elma, Wash; Cynthia Reed of Attica; Frank of Davis Twp; Gabriel of Indianapolis and Newton of Los Angeles, California.
