MATHIS, Leonard

Veedersburg—Leonard D. Mathis, 58, rural Pinckneyville, Ill., died at Pinckneyville Community Hospital, April 15, 1989.
He was born April 15, 1930 in Pinckneyville, the son of Harold Leonard and Helen Rennison Mathis. He lived in Indiana for approximately 20 years before returning to Pinckneyville in 1974. He was married in 1950 in Pinckneyville to Helen E. Stembaugh, who survives.
He was a retired coal miner, having been employed by Peabody Coal Company before his retirement. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church of Pinckneyville and United Mine Workers of America.
Surviving besides his wife are one son, Ricky, Pinckneyville; two daughters, Mrs. Roger (Donna) Eades, Lafayette, and Mrs. Clifford (Nancy) Wesley, Fowler; two brothers, Richard, Cleveland, N. C., and Raymond, Pinckneyville; three sisters, Mrs. Roberta Scholebo and Brenda K. Mathis, both of Pinckneyville; and Mrs. Diane Summers, Veedersburg, and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two infant sons.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. April 18 in Oak Grove Baptist Church near Pinckneyville with Bros. Jeffery Hemken and Robert Brookman officiating. Burial was in Mueller Hill Cemetery.
