Elijah Massey, 72, former coal miner and town marshall of Kingman died Sunday at his home in Kingman. He had suffered a heart attack last Tuesday. Born near Kingman in 1886, he was the son of Alonzo and Martha Helton Massey. He was married in 1910 to Winifred Pokorny. Mr. Massey served in the US Navy from 1904 to 1913. He was a 51 year member of Kingman Lodge 339, International Order of Odd Fellows. Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Crowder of Kingman; a son, Robert of Urbana, Ill; two grandchildren and one great grandchild. Services were held Tuesday at the Woodrow Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul DuBois officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery at Covington. – kbz
KINGMAN — Elijah Massey, 72-year-old retired marshal of Kingman and retired coal miner, died at 3 a.m. Sunday at his home. He had suffered a heart attack May 2. He was a member of the Kingman IOOF Lodge for 51 years and was in the U.S. Navy for nine years. Born near Kingman Feb. 15. 1886 he was the son of Alonzo and Helton Massey. He was married Dec. 11, 1910 to Winifred (Winnie) Porkorney. Surviving are the widow, a daughter, Mrs. Mary Crowder of Kingman; a son, Robert Massey of Urbana, Ill.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by three brothers, a sister and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Woodrow Funeral Home in Kingman with Rev. Paul DuBois officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Covington. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Monday. --typed by Walt W
