Carter E. Massey, age 45, a native of Covington and a resident of Anderson the past 13 years, died at 11 o'clock Monday night, April 30, at St. John's Hospital in Anderson. He had been in ill health for the past four months. He had undergone a heart operation Thursday, April 19, at the Robert Long Hospital, Indianapolis, and was scheduled for open heart surgery there on May 4. Sunday night he suffered a heart attack and succumbed in the hospital at Anderson. Mr. Massey was born in Covington Jan. 27, 1917, the son of Leland and Mary Young Massey. He was a graduate of the Covington Community High School and following graduation was employed at the Faust & Frey Hardware here for several years. He had resided 13 years in Anderson where he was employed with the John Lucas Paint Co. He was married in 1938 to Mary Lou Houston, who survives. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: four children, James, Ronald, Judith and Mary Beth, all of Anderson; one grandson, of Anderson; his Mother, Mrs. Mary Massey, 621 Seventh St.; three sisters, Mrs. Donna Nicklas and Mrs. Charlene Allen, both of Covington, and Mrs. Marilee Anderson of Veedersburg Rt. 2; and two brothers, Dale of Albuquerque, New Mex., and Charles in the U. S. Air Force, stationed in Italy. The body is at the Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home here where friends may call after 6 o'clock tonight, May 2. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 2 o'clock (EST) Thursday afternoon. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery here. -- typed by Walt W
