Word has been received in Hillsboro of the death of Dr. Virgil A. Mason, 52, of Woodfield, Dr. Short Hills, New York, the son of a former Methodist Minister of Hillsboro, Rev. OR Mason.  He also graduated from the Hillsboro HS in the class of 1924.  The funeral services were held Monday Aug 25.  Dr. Mason was associate attending surgeon at Orange Memorial Hospital where he died of lung cancer.  He had resided in West Orange for 15 years before moving to Short Hills in 1957.  Born in Howard County, Ind Dr. mason received an AB degree from Wabash College and MS and MD degrees at Cornell University.  After a year’s internship at Orange Memorial Hospital and a surgeon residence at St. Luke’s Hospital, New York, Dr. Mason started his practice in East Orange. He had maintained offices there since 1940.  Dr. Mason was a member of the Essex County NJ and American Medical Associations; America College of Surgeons; NJ Academy of Medicine, Orange Mount Medical Society and Alpha Omega Honorary scholastic medical society.  He leaves his wife, Mrs. Edith Rae Mason;  two daughters, Misses Marjory and Janet Mason at home; his father, OR Mason of Remington; two brothers, Carlyle of Indianapolis and Wendell of Lafayette and two sisters, Mrs. Carmen Rybolt of Kokomo and Mrs. Charles Biddle of Remington. - kbz

Hillsboro - Dr. Virgil A. Mason, 52, Howard County native and son of a retired Hillsboro Methodist minister, the Rev. CR Mason, died at Short Hills, NY. Survivors include a brother, Carlyle Mason of Indianapolis, the widow, father and two daughters. - kbz
