Mrs. Edith (Griffith) Mason, wife of the Rev. OR Mason, retired Methodist minister of Remington, Ind died at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis early Sunday morning. She had been ill for several months. Mrs. Mason was born at Kappa in Ervin Township, Howard County on Nov 16, 1882 the daughter of TT and Irene Griffith. She was married to Mr. Mason on Nov 27, 1900. Surviving with the husband are five children: Dr. Virgil A. Mason of West Orange, NJ; the Rev. Carlyle L. Mason of Lafayette; Mrs. Garmen Rybolt of Kokomo and Mrs. Charles Biddle of Remington. also surviving are two sister, Mrs. Bruce Householder of Galveston and Mrs. Blanche McCoy of Lafayette and eight grandchildren. Two children preceded her in death.
The Rev. and Mrs. Mason had several pastorates in communities of Walton, Merom, Linden, New Richmond, Hillsboro, Rossville, Flackville-Indianapolis Bethel, Kewanna, LaCrosse and Remington. They made their home in Remington after retirement and celebrated their golden wedding anniversary there on Nov 27, 1950. Mrs. Mason was active in the church and community life of Remington, belonging to the Methodist Church, the Garden Club, Forthnightly Club, Carpenter Township Home Economics Club, the Remington WCTU and the Reading Club. She was past president of the latter two and an honorary member of the reading club.
Funeral services will be in the Remington Methodist Church Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. with burial in North Union Cemetery in Howard County. Friends may call at the Howard Funeral Home in Remington after noon Monday.
The body will lie in state at the church one hour preceding services. - kbz
