VEEDERSBURG — Jane (Marshall) Martz, 78, Fayetteville, Ark., died at 11:20 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2007 in Butterfield Trail Village. She was born Jan. 19, 1929 in Indianapolis, the daughter of Nicholas T. and Grace (Busard) Marshall. She was married to Gordon Martz, who survives. She studied at the New York State College of Industrial Ceramic Design in Alfred, N.Y., graduating Suma Cum Laude. In 1951, after marrying her classmate Gordon, she brought ceramic production home to their family business in Veedersburg. Lamps were the main output of their kilns, along with dinnerware and some decorative clay items: bowls, trays, etc. The ware was sold nationally and received many awards for “Good Design.” The lamps were on procurement lists for the U. S. General Services Administration and the U. S. State Department, where they were placed in our foreign embassies. She was a dedicated hand weaver, and completed two large commissions for church dossals. The interest in weaving included basketry, and any type of fabric design. World travel was an important part of her life. In 1989 Marshall Studios was sold, and Jane and Gordon retired to Fayetteville, Ark. Survivors, besides the husband, include: two daughters, Ann T. Martz, Baltimore, Md. and Jennifer (John) Van Brunt, West Fork, Ark., and a granddaughter, Jessica (Dustin) Hilary, Granger. There will be a private service in Veedersburg with burial in the family plot in Rockfield Cemetery. Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial may be given to First Christian Church, Veedersburg, or Southeast Fountain Community Foundation. – jlr
