Mrs. Verna B. Martin, 74 of Danville, Ill a former resident of the Covington community died Saturday July 16 at St. Elizabeth Hospital.  Born April 12, 1886 at Homer, Ill, she was the daughter of Henry P. and Margaret Meeks Burghart.

She was married Dec 24, 1922 to Karnea Martin who preceded her in death on May 12, 1944.  Mrs. Martin was a member of the Benton Chapel Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Danville HS and Eastern Ill University. She had taught school in Illinois and Indiana. She returned to Danville in 1953 to make her home. Survivors include three sons: Henry and Robert and Richard, twins, all of Covington Rt 2; a stepson, Basil of Danville; four stepdaughters: Mrs. Edith Ohl of Paris, Mrs. Bernice Tallman of Kingman; Mrs. Marie Gouty of Covington and Mrs. Mary Ellen Watson of Crawfordsville; a brother, Lester of Covington; a sister, Mrs. Lona Parsons of San Antonio, Tex; 29 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.  She also was preceded in death by a brother and two stepchildren.  Services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington. The Rev. CR Tallman officiated with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery. – kbz
